What is the Amtrak Connect Service?

Picture
Amtrak Connect is a service that allows passengers to connect to the Internet just as if they were at the office. This system has been tested on select routes, and is currently being deployed onto all North American Amtrak routes.

Additionally, the Amtrack Connect system incorporates streaming video, which is broadcast over the same connection as the wireless internet. This type of streaming video is being used on some trains to provide a mobile, closed circuit television system. Unlike a closed circuit system in a building, or even an airplane, this type of system is wireless, and can be easily scaled as the number of train cars changes.

Amtrak is a government owned company, and the implementation of this system has been subtracted to I.C.G., a corporation that specializes in providing wireless communication system solutions. I.C.G. also operates through a subsidiary called ICNet, a company that is primarily involved in the residential internet market.
